Original Music With Style

Duophonik focuses its creative energy on both scoring to picture for film and television as well as writing production music for licensing.

Our styles range from orchestral and cinematic to dark and tense, and from light folk-inspired tunes to synth-driven and experimental. We love to include acoustic instruments and live musicians whenever we can, and our own instruments - piano and cello are often featured in our work.

Have a concept in mind for your production? We’re all ears.

Hunting Matthew Nichols

This feature film blurs the lines between documentary, true-crime, found-footage, horror and traditional scripted scenes to take the viewer on an unexpected journey. Our score blends elements from these genres while weaving themes and a consistent sonic palette that builds and evolves to a remarkable climax.

Hunting Matthew Nichols had its World Premiere at the NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL in October 2024 and has been selected for a number of other festivals including FILMQUEST (Utah), NIGHTMARES (Ohio), BLOOD IN THE SNOW (Toronto) and the WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL (Whistler) in the coming months.

Ábreme

We wrote and performed original music for this dark comedy that explores immigration, mental health and the magnetism hiding as aversion. The collision between two cultures explodes in one household as all three wait for Javier's immigration papers. Written by Alexandra Lainfiesta and starring Lucy McNulty, Marco Bonomini and Alexandra Lainfiesta.

Mess You Made

This film by Writer and Director Zack Hamm and starring Lucy McNulty and Brett Willis featured a diverse range of songs including ‘Mess You Made’ by singer/songwriter Sam Lynch. Our task was to score ‘around’ the songs and create a cohesive score feel. We are very pleased with the results and it has already screened at a few festivals in the US and Europe.

DR. Coell

A 50th Anniversary video for a well-known Victoria, BC appraisal firm for our friends at creative agency LeapXD. We created an original soundtrack for their online campaign.

Our First Date

This short film required original music in three distinct genres which was a fun challenge. A lounge-style traditional jazz number, a classic horror underscore and a straight-ahead guitar rock song for the closing credits. Watch it here or on Vimeo.

Mirage Trailer

We were asked by Vancouver Film School sound-design student Matt Ramold to score his graduation project - a ground-up audio re-do of Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed Mirage trailer. We’re happy with the results and were pleased to help Matt deliver a very solid piece of work. Thanks to Ubisoft for allowing VFS students to use their material to hone their skills.

PRODUCTION + SYNC MUSIC

Duophonik writes and produces production music (sync music) for submission to libraries worldwide. Tracks are currently available through London Sync in the UK and directly from us. If you hear something you like get in touch and we can provide more info on licensing.

The tracks below are a broad sample of the style and quality of music Duophonik produces.

Upbeat + Quirky

These are fun tracks that usually come out of nowhere and put a smile on our faces. Written with advertising and light fact-ent in mind.

Tension

If you get to know us you’ll learn quickly that Jeff is a huge fan of the scandi-noir genre of music and television series. Close your eyes and picture a drone shot of a Volvo driving towards a frozen lake….. or a neon-lit London alley as the body comes into focus……

Orchestral

Our classical roots are showing a little bit here. Lush strings with sweeping melodic lines - our influences include Elgar, Ravel, Bernstein, Gershwin, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and modern film composers like Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Cho Young-wuk.

Hybrid + Synth

Studio experimentations, sampling and finding new sounds to inspire us often leads to unexpected sonic worlds. Our collection of vintage synthesizers, Eurorack modular and guitar pedals are put to good use in these tracks. But all tied together with our love of string ensembles and memorable melodies.

Scoring Samples

Practice makes perfect and we are always trying new ideas and learning. These four videos are a few contests and personal scoring challenges that Christopher and Jeff have written over the past few years.
